Delicious Chocolate Chip Skillet Baked Cookie

Indulge your sweet tooth with this mouthwatering Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie recipe. This rustic, homey dessert brings together all the elements of the classic cookie we know and love, but with a twist. Instead of individual cookies, use one large, skillet-baked treat that has a wonderful combination of crispy edges and a soft, gooey centre, somewhat reminiscent of a deep-dish pizza, but sweeter and oh-so-delicious.

The ingredients are simple pantry staples: all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, butter, brown sugar, white sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and of course, chocolate chips. A sprinkle of sea salt on top brings out the perfect balance of sweet and salty flavours.

You’ll be using a cast-iron skillet, an indispensable kitchen tool that gives a distinctive taste and character to the dishes prepared in it. The cookie bakes evenly and has a unique depth of flavour, different from cookies baked on a traditional baking sheet. The result is a delightfully thick and chewy cookie with a heavenly, chocolatey aroma that will fill your kitchen.

Once baked, it’s best enjoyed warm, preferably with a scoop of your favourite vanilla ice cream on top, making for an irresistibly decadent dessert that’s perfect for sharing… or not! This skillet cookie is the ultimate comfort food, guaranteed to bring a smile to your face with every bite. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, ensuring that even the most novice of bakers can successfully whip up this delightful dessert. Get ready to wow your family and friends with this Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie. Enjoy!

Basic Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie

Cookie:

All-Purpose Flour: This provides the structure for your cookie. The proteins in flour, when combined with liquid, form gluten, which gives baked goods their texture.

Baking Powder & Baking soda: These are leavening agents that create carbon dioxide gas when mixed with wet ingredients. This gas forms bubbles in the dough, helping it rise and creating a tender crumb.

Salt: It enhances the flavours of the other ingredients and helps to balance out the sweetness.

Butter: The fat in butter is essential for adding moisture, flavour, and a tender, flaky texture to the cookie.

Brown Sugar & Granulated Sugar: They add sweetness, of course, but the brown sugar also contributes moisture and a slightly chewy texture because of its molasses content.

Eggs: They add structure, leavening, and flavor to the cookie.

Vanilla Extract: This adds depth and enhances the flavour of the other ingredients.

Chocolate Chips: These are the star of the show! They melt in the oven, creating pockets of molten chocolate throughout the cookie.

Sea Salt: Sprinkled on top, it brings out the flavours of the cookie, especially the chocolate, and balances the sweetness.

alternative ingredients

Flour: If you need a gluten-free alternative, use a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend.

Sugars: Coconut sugar could replace brown and granulated sugar for a slightly healthier version.

Eggs: For a vegan alternative, you can use flax eggs or applesauce.

Butter: Coconut oil or vegan butter can be used as a dairy-free option.

Chocolate Chips: You can try using white, dark, or even peanut butter chips for a flavour variation. For a healthier version, opt for sugar-free chocolate chips.

Preparation Tips for Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie

  • Room temperature ingredients: Ensure your butter and eggs are at room temperature for better incorporation.
  • Don’t overmix: Once you add the dry ingredients to the wet, mix until just combined to avoid a tough cookie.
  • Patience with baking: The cookie might seem underdone in the middle when it’s time to take it out of the oven, but remember it will continue to cook in the skillet as it cools.

Serving Tips for Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie

  • Serve it warm: This cookie is best enjoyed warm, straight from the skillet. The heat makes the chocolate gooey and irresistible.
  • Add ice cream: For a treat that’s over the top, serve your skillet cookie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The contrast between the warm cookie and cold ice cream is incredible.
  • Garnish: Sprinkle a little extra sea salt on top before serving to highlight the sweet and salty contrast.

storage tips

  • Store any leftovers in the skillet, covered with foil or plastic wrap, at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • You can also slice the remaining cookie into portions and store them in an airtight container.
  • To reheat, just place a slice in the microwave for a few seconds, or warm the whole skillet in a low oven. It will taste just as fresh and delicious as when it first came out of the oven. Enjoy!

  • 3 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C and lightly grease a large cast-iron skillet (around 10 to 12 inches in diameter).
  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir well to mix.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, egg yolks, and vanilla extract until well combined. The mixture should look smooth.
