Basic Ingredients for Creamy Vanilla Steel-Cut Oats with Peaches & Cream Topping

Steel-Cut Oats:

Steel-Cut Oats: The base of the dish, steel-cut oats are chosen for their texture and nutritional content. They provide a chewy, satisfying bite and are a great source of fibre and protein, which helps keep you full and energised.

Water or Milk: Water is essential for cooking oats, but adding milk (dairy or plant-based) enhances the creaminess and adds a touch of richness and calcium to the dish.

Salt: A pinch of salt is crucial for enhancing the flavours of the oatmeal, balancing the sweetness of the peaches and the cream.

Vanilla Extract: Vanilla adds a warm, aromatic flavour that pairs well with the peaches and cream, adding depth to the dish.

Toppings:

Peaches: The star topping, peaches add a juicy, sweet flavor and a soft texture, offering a lovely contrast to the chewy oats and providing vitamins and fiber.

Cream or Greek Yogurt: Adding cream or Greek yoghurt introduces a rich, tangy element to the dish, contributing to its creamy texture and adding protein.

Nutmeg: This spice adds a warm, nutty flavour that complements the peaches and oats, enhancing the overall taste profile.

Lemon Zest: The zest adds a fresh, citrusy brightness that lifts the dish, contrasting beautifully with the sweetness of the peaches and the richness of the cream.

Almond Flakes: They provide a crunchy texture and nutty flavor, offering a contrast to the creamy oatmeal and soft peaches.

alternative ingredients

Fruits: Berries, apples, or bananas can substitute for peaches, depending on seasonal availability.

Nuts: Pecans or walnuts can replace almond flakes for a different kind of crunch.

Sweeteners: If additional sweetness is desired, honey, maple syrup, or brown sugar can be added.
