Basic Ingredients for Falafel Wrap
Falafel:
Zahra’s Kitchen Falafel: The centrepiece of the wrap, these falafels provide a hearty, protein-rich base with a blend of chickpeas, herbs, and spices. They offer a satisfying crunch and a burst of flavour.
Tahini Sauce:
Tahini Sauce: Made from ground sesame seeds, this sauce adds a creamy, nutty flavour that complements the falafel’s earthiness. It also introduces a smooth texture contrast to the falafel’s crispiness.
Parsley Salad Served with Marinated Onions:
Parsley Salad with Sumac-Marinated Onions: Fresh parsley adds a burst of colour and a fresh, herbal note, while the Sumac-Marinated onions introduce a tangy and slightly fruity flavour that enhances the overall taste of the wrap.
Wrap:
Arabic bread or pita bread: This acts as the vessel for the wrap, holding all the ingredients together. Its softness balances the crunch of the falafel and the crispness of the vegetables.
Fresh Mint Leaves: Mint adds a refreshing, cool flavour that contrasts with the deeper flavours of the other ingredients, adding complexity to the wrap.
Baby Gem Lettuce and Rocket Leaves: These greens add a crisp texture and a slight peppery note (from the rocket) that complements the other flavours without overpowering them.
Tomato: Provide a juicy, fresh counterpoint to the denser falafel that enlivens the wrap’s overall flavour profile.
Alternative Ingredients
Falafel: If Zahra’s Kitchen Falafel isn’t available, any high-quality falafel mix or even homemade falafel can be used as a substitute.
Tahini Sauce: For a different twist, you can use Greek yogurt or hummus as the sauce’s base.
Parsley Salad: Feel free to add or substitute cilantro or dill for a different herbal note.
Arabic bread or Pita bread: Flat bread is a great alternative.
Vegetables: Cucumbers, bell peppers, or pickles can be added or substituted for tomatoes and radishes for a different crunch and flavor.
Preparation Tips for Falafel Wrap
- Ensure the falafel is well-cooked to achieve the desired crispiness without being dry inside.
- Balance the tahini sauce’s consistency by adding water gradually; it should be creamy but not too thick.
- Toss the parsley salad just before assembling the wrap to maintain freshness and prevent sogginess.
Serving Tips for Falafel Wrap
- Serve the wrap immediately after assembling to enjoy the mix of textures, from the crispy falafel to the crunchy vegetables.
- Pair the wrap with side dishes like hummus, tabbouleh, or a simple cucumber salad for a complete meal.
Storage Tips
- Store the ingredients separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.
- The assembled wrap is best enjoyed fresh, but if you need to store it, wrap it tightly in foil and keep it in the fridge for no more than a day.
- Tahini sauce can be stored in the fridge for up to a week and can be used in other dishes as well.
